The Fair of Nations in Valencia

From 13th May until 13th June, the former course of the River Turia, in Valencia, is hosting the Fair of Nations. An ideal event to have a great time and discover the music, gastronomy and ultimately the culture of a great many countries.

This Fair, an event with a huge sociocultural dimension, features many attractive activities and fun spectacles. Every year it draws great crowds of people and is hugely successful.

There are many reasons why people keep returning to the area around the Calatrava Bridge, including the international gastronomy on offer, where visitors can sample typical food and drink from all around the world, and the different rhythms that will be inundating this section of the former river course.

Furthermore, in the Fair of Nations there is an area dedicated to arts and crafts from all around the world, where pieces that reflect the cultural knowledge and wealth of over 50 countries are exhibited and sold. The 'plazas del arte' is a space where you can admire the paintings, sculpture and antiques from half the world. An exhibition that brings together over 200 paintings by artists from Cuba, Santo Domingo and Mexico, antique silver from Argentina, and reproductions of items in the Colombia Gold Museum are part of this exhibition, the maximum expression of international culture.

European Grand Prix Formula One F1

The European Formula 1 Grand Prix, taking place in Valencia from 25th to 27th June 2010, will be watched by over 600 million television viewers worldwide. Another time, Valencia city and the Valencia Street Circuit will be beamed into millions of homes.

The sporting activity begins on 25th June at the circuit with free training sessions for Formula 1. On Saturday, as well as the spectacular Formula 1 qualifying sessions taking place at 2.00 p.m., the first races of the weekend will also be held. And on Sunday 27th June, Valencia will bear witness to another round of the European Formula 1 Grand Prix, with the presence of Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton or Pedro de la Rosa, to name but a few.

Furthermore, until 27th June, spectators can enjoy Malvarrosa Beach Park, a leisure and entertainment area next to the circuit, where they can take part in activities related to the Telefónica Formula 1 European Grand Prix.

The Valencia Street Circuit covers a distance of five kilometres, taking drivers through the Juan Carlos I Marina by Valencia's port to the new area of the city heading out towards El Grao. The circuit includes a swing bridge that crosses the port's dockland area and the use of an emblematic 19th Century building as the pit area.

From Gaudi to Picasso

The Valencia Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) presents From Gaudí to Picasso, an exhibition featuring over a hundred works including drawings, paintings, sculpture and decorative arts, from different museums, foundations and private collections.

From Gaudí to Picasso focuses on the early work of Picasso and Julio González, two multi-faceted artists who completed their training during the Modernist period and who went on to occupy prominent positions in the history of 20th Century painting and sculpture.

At this exhibition, which runs until 27th June, you can also see the work of another genius, Gaudí. A master whose presence is essential to appreciate the purest essence of this artistic current.

The European art scene transformed profoundly in the inter-century period. Modernism is another example of the profound mark left on artistic expressions such as music, painting, graphic arts and architecture, poetry and theatre.

Oppening of the Festival del Mediterrani (Mediterranean Festival)
